Cahirciveen, "Ring of Kerry," Ireland
|
n 1871, Ellen Sullivan married Tim O’Donoghue. They lived in
Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland. From this marriage came 10
children, 3 boys and 7 girls. Although the parents remained,
beginning in 1893 all 10 of the children emigrated to the U.S..
Nora, Mike, Tim, Kate, Julia, Margaret and Mary came to Pueblo,
Colorado. When Nora moved with her family to Gary, Indiana
around 1910, Delia (Bridget), Dan and Nellie followed her from
Ireland directly to Indiana.
he Colorado and Indiana branches of the family have had very
little contact over the last 100 years. This website is being
created to allow the branches to become reacquainted and to
fill in all the genealogical gaps which have been lost over the
years. Hopefully, this will all come about through our
family pages
,
emails and photographs old and new, as we fill in all the
empty spaces. The ten children left at least 21 sons and
daughters, 50 grandchildren and countless great and great-great
grandchildren. The latest
small twig
on the tree will be
featured on a special page which presently is occupied by Frank
Leonard Kearns, born December 27, 2002. Let us know when it is
time to replace him with a new twig from your family. Our list
of contributors to this website should always be growing.
t’s been a long, joyful and sometimes sad and painful road for
the O’Donoghue Family. There probably are only a few with the
family name still in use. We also have those using Donoghue,
Donohue and O’Donohue as the spelling has changed over the
years. As daughters and granddaughters married, the family
acquired a fair share of those with names like Kuhn, Cahill,
Lloyd, Kearns, Holland, O’Hara, White and Cecil. And even
though later generations go by many other names, recent family
correspondence indicates a desire for more information on our
Irish roots which this website should provide if we are all
willing to participate. Our history and fact gathering will be
divided into eight sections, one for each of the children who
came to America, except for Nellie and Mary, who appear not to
have left any descendants. Feel free to add to the family
information under your section. We also have a
family message board
for everyone to use, including replies to particular
messages. We are also working on a
directory
with e-mail addresses for anyone wishing to be listed and
are also considering a listing of mailing addresses and phones
for those who want this published.
e are contacting as many as possible about this website,
asking for your participation and hoping you will have as much
pleasure as we have had in setting up the site. Suggestions
are always appreciated. Have fun and enjoy putting together
this big family puzzle.
